Soap is something we use several times a day, slathering multiple chemical additives over our bodies. Yes, they make soaps foamy, nicely smelling and colourful. However, the long-term consequences of using harmful ingredients which get absorbed into your bloodstream are many and unpleasant.
Soap in its simplest form is a combination of lyes and fats/oils going through a process of saponification. You can choose what sort of oil, natural colouring, clay and fragrances go into the soap you make yourself. Woodash from your fireplace and fruit or herbs from your own garden can be used to make it truly your own creation. Natural, home-made soap is safe for your skin and whole body, and what’s more, it is also very cheap. As you can see, soapmaking is a skill worth learning!
