“The Wonderful World of Weeds: history, ecology and recipes” is a weed foraging walk with Diego Bonetto taking place in Darvall Park, Denistone.
Diego is a well-known and respected cultural practitioner, educator and speaker on useful plants, green skills, gardening, food, and the environment.
Weeds are everywhere, unavoidably. Weeds are our co-evolutionary species, many of them following human’s footsteps as we expanded from North East Africa and roamed the world.
These plants are our botanical brothers and sisters, some are the ancestors of nowadays domesticated food sources, while others have always been harvested form the wild, used for food, remedies and craft purposes in folk lore from all over the globe.
Let’s meet the weeds, our bane and medicine. Let’s recognise the value of some of this species by revisiting stories, poems and… your very own backyard.
The first tour runs between 11 and 12:30, the second starts at 1 pm and finishes at 2:30. Meeting place at Denistone will be given at registration.
$10 per person. For bookings please email firstname.lastname@example.org
